DNS/Web server Workaround Shut Down By Sony

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

An update to my previous post about setting up your own web server and using DNS to get your PS3 on the PSN with the old firmware: it seems as if Sony has “fixed” this little loophole that made our PS3s once again functional sometime yesterday (2010-04-14).

No word yet on re-enabling this feature without upgrading to the latest firmware.

Sony’s Decicion to Remove Install Other OS – What a Mistake, DNS Work Around for PSN Access

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Sony, let me tell you something: this is one fight you cannot possibly win. You saw what happened with the PSP. People started releasing firmware hacks for it and after that, it was over. Removing a very useful feature, a feature that I’ve already paid for, is not a very wise move on your part. You’ve angered the same gods that brought down hellfire upon the PSP. Geohot has said not to upgrade because he is looking into a safe way of upgrading and not losing “Install Other OS.” Let’s hope that works out.

Windows Live Mail Fail – Thanks for the Upgrade, Microsoft!

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

A few months ago, I received an email in all of my Hotmail accounts that Microsoft will be disabling the Dav protocol which will break Outlook Express functionality. This was disheartening because I, for one, really dislike Hotmail’s web interface. I find it extremely clunky and slow and would never actually use my email if that were the only way for me to access it. Yes Hotmail is no longer my main email, however I do still maintain three accounts with them for legacy’s sake. From the email/website:

As of June 30, 2008, Microsoft is disabling the DAV protocol and you will no longer be able to access your Hotmail Inbox via Outlook Express. As an alternative, we recommend that you download Windows Live Mail, a free desktop e-mail client that has the familiarity of Outlook Express and much more.

This is not an Upgrade… GOOD NIGHT

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I’ve been looking into picking up a new Dell Latitude Mini 9 now that it is released (Dell if you’re reading this and want to send me a FREE, fully upgraded Ubuntu model, I’ll happily review it for you!) and came across this image from Dell’s website (click for the full size version):

Really?

“Upgrading” from Ubuntu to Windows XP? That is not what I’d call an upgrade. This puts Ubuntu in a really bad light if read by people who don’t know better. This sort of false advertising and misleading the public with opinion rather than fact is pretty bad in this case. I’ll meet you half way on this and won’t say that Ubuntu is an upgrade from Windows (since my personal opinion doesn’t matter here). It’d be more honest if you suggested that Windows is an alternative to Ubuntu, rather than an upgrade.

Wordpress 2.5… GO!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

After reading about the release of WordPress 2.5, I quickly downloaded the new version. I have never been one to jump onto the new version bandwagon, but I really wanted to check out the new administrator section. The administrator section, you see, has caused me much grief with it’s use.

Now that I have just completed the upgrade process from WordPress 2.3.2 (I think) to WordPress 2.5 and I must admit that the upgrade was rather painless. WordPress provided multiple options for the upgrade process (a “simple” 3-step process, and an extended process, which I followed). Now that I have WordPress 2.5 installed, I can say that, so far, so good.
